Lessons Learnt

Who has it been for you? Which individuals or groups of people in your life have positively impacted your journey of potential?

Maybe it was a teacher at school like in the video above, maybe it was or is a coach or mentor, maybe a family member, or another inspiring person in your network who you are connected with now or as you were growing up. Years later you can probably still remember clearly lessons that were learnt through interacting with these people. When we experience success or challenges throughout our journey we reflect back on their thoughts, words or actions. This reflection can affirm the effort and belief that was required or gives us strength and courage to keep going.

We reconnect with these people at various times in our lives to share our joy or struggles. Even if we don’t see them for very long periods of time, their influence travels with us. Their impact could be the drive or passion they ignited in you to achieve a dream, or how they made you feel through experiences that connected deep to your authenticity, or the empathy and care shown as you navigate life’s successes and challenges.

Watching this powerful video this week I reflected on the inspiring teachers, mentors, family, friends and others that have taught me valuable lessons throughout my life. Life is experiential, opportunities to learn by doing with reflection. Some lessons we learn may be uncomfortable at the time but can be important pieces of the puzzle as we endeavour to make a difference within the global village. Remain open to opportunities and our ability to connect.

This story of Mr. Wright in the attached video takes us into his classroom as well as his home. His courage to connect, to self, others and the world around him allows for the positive impact he is having as an educator as well as a father. Life is a vulnerable journey. By telling our story through our thoughts, words and actions, honouring the gifts, talents, experiences, successes and challenges, we can inspire others to do the same. We never stop learning, as long as we reflect on the experiences that make up our days.

I hope you are able to do the same from watching this video. Reflect on all those people and experiences that make up the collage of your life, reconnect with those moments, or lessons, that empower your daily thoughts, words and actions. Thanks to all the incredible people who have and are inspiring my collage, and all those who will influence it into the future.
